FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

DO YOU HAVE KITTENS?

This is the question that we get asked the most. Here are the statuses that you will see on our "KITTENS" page during the adoption process.

AVAILABLE: Adoption applications are being accepted for this kitten.
PENDING: Kitten is on hold for someone - they will unlikely become available.
RESERVED: Contract has been signed and the deposit has been received - they will unlikely become available
SOLD: Contract has been signed and kitten has been paid in full - Kitten is now spoken for

ASSESSMENT: Under breeder observation - Kitten is NOT available at this time
STAYS: Kitten will stay with us for future breeding or showing

PLEASE NOTE: Unless we have kittens available, the ADOPTION page on our website is hidden and we may be slow to respond to inquiries via e-mail, website contact form, social media messages, ext. We have many kitten inquiries a week, despite the fact that we are a small, in-home cattery that only produces a handful of litters per year. For this reason, social media, and/or e-mails with questions that are already answered on our FAQ page will go unanswered. We appreciate your understanding and patience.

DO YOU HAVE A WAITLIST?

OUR 2024 WAITLIST IS NOW OPEN. PLEASE CLICK THE BELOW LINK TO APPLY.

Our goal is to find the very best homes for our kittens where they will be forever loved and spoiled. Sometimes that’s the first person that expresses an interest and sometimes that could be one of the very last. In short, we do keep waitlists, BUT WE DO NOT accept reservation fees for kittens that are not yet born; however, once a successful mating takes place, we will announce as much on social media and to our webpage.

Be sure to check back here OR you can like/follow us on Facebook and Instagram to stay up to date on our future breeding plans, when our 2024 waitlist will open and litter announcements (links for these social media platforms can be found at the bottom of this page) .

WHAT IS THE PROCESS FOR PURCHASING A KITTEN?

1. Complete an online Adoption Application
(PLEASE NOTE: This page on our website is only visible to those that we send the link to)

2. Kittens are typically released from our Breeder ASSESSMENT and moved to AVAILABLE when they are 8-10 weeks of age.

3. Just as every pet lover should do their due diligence with researching and interviewing potential breeders, Davidson Maine Coons also wants to know each and every potential family and approves or denies applicants at our discretion.

4. When an approved person or family expresses interest in a specific kitten, we will send a copy of our contract for review. After we receive the signed contract back, the kitten will get put on HOLD. We then give 48 hours for the non-refundable reservation fees to be paid. Once the reservation fee is received, this moves the kitten to a RESERVED status.
NOTE: Davidson Maine Coons holds the right to have first pick of the litter for our future breeding work, and reserves the right to refuse any person at any point in the adoption process up to and including pick up day (if remainder due has been paid in advance, it will be reimbursed accordingly). Because we always want to keep the best interest of the kitten in mind, if there is a reaction to a vaccination, the kitten is feeling unwell, or there are complications with the spay/neuter surgery, the scheduled pick up date will be adjusted accordingly.
Additionally, submitting an adoption application and/or returning your signed contract does not guarantee you a kitten. A reservation fee is what’s required to RESERVE your kitten. If the reservation fee is not received within one week of returning your signed contract, the kitten in question will be moved from HOLD back to AVAILABLE status.

WHAT IS THE PRICE OF A MAINE COON KITTEN?

According to CBS News "Meet the most expensive cat breed in America"

In Canada and the United States, prices can range anywhere between $2,000 CAD and $6,500 CAD, with a total yearly maintenance (including food and toys) of approximately $1,300 CAD.

BEWARE of catteries that claim they have pedigree kittens available below the national average price range! Most times these listings are scams, for mix-breed domestic house cats, or for kittens produced by backyard breeders and kitten mills with cats that are not registered for breeding, have not undergone proper health screening, and/or have been raised in less than ideal living conditions.

WHAT IS THE PRICE OF YOUR KITTENS AND WHAT DOES IT INCLUDE?

This includes:
- First Vaccinations
- Second Vaccinations
- Microchipping
- Deworming x4
- TICA Breeder Slip
- 1 month free Pet Insurance with Trupanion

The cost of SPAY/NEUTER prior to leaving our cattery is an additional $300 for males and $500 for females. You will be required to let me know at the time of reservation which you prefer.

WHAT IS A RESERVATION FEE?

Reservation fees show a buyer’s commitment to purchasing a kitten. The reservation fee is non-refundable and required to move a kitten from a HOLD to RESERVED status. The current reservation fee is $500 and is due within 48 hours of signing a contract.

WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT?

1. E-Transfer
2. Paysend

DOES YOUR CATTERY PERFORM HEALTH TESTING?

YES! All of our breeding cats have been DNA tested for Hypertrophic CardioMyopathy, Spinal Muscular Atrophy, and over four dozen other gene mutations commonly found in feline breeds, including Polycystic Kidney Disease and Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency.

In addition we also do full panel fecal and upper respiratory PCR labs with Idexx, FIV/FeLV any time a new kitten or cat enters the cattery.

WHAT AGE CAN I BRING MY KITTEN HOME?

Kittens can leave our cattery between the ages of 12 and 16 weeks of age. Each kitten will be evaluated to determine proper health and socialization prior to leaving for their new home. The time frame may vary from kitten to kitten. If they have a reaction to a vaccine or their spay and neuter surgery, we will keep them at our cattery longer than originally discussed.

DO YOU OFFER IN-HOME CATTERY VISITS?

For the health and safety of our family, cats, and kittens we do not allow visits to our cattery.

Once a kitten is reserved, we’ll also be sure to provide photo updates so that you don’t miss out on seeing your kitten mature and grow.

WHAT DO YOU FEED YOUR KITTENS AND CATS?

All of our cats and kittens eat a Houseblend Raw Mixture from our local Raw Pet Food Store - Furball's Choice.

Additionally, we free-feed our Pregnant and Nursing Females as well as the Acana - First Feast

DO YOU OFFER BREEDING RIGHTS?

At this time, we do not.
